Any discussion that is had about highly successful people, persistence is usually one of the core ingredients and important factors that is attributed to their success. Their major success does not come easy and not without a lot of effort and failure. Resistance is likely to be a road block that will show up…but they accept the challenge and plow through it.
Persistence is the major key that will carry us through to achieving dreams and meeting goals that we want for our life. It is in each and everyone one of us, it’s buried deep down inside and when our dreams and visions start to materialize, persistence will raise up and will not let us wear the label of quitter. It’s the quiet tiny little voice that pushes and pushes while it’s not pretty or handsome it does have the strength of a lion and it’s roar is just as loud. At that point we are given a choice to keep moving forward or quit under pressure.
Each of us has been given the gift of greatness and it lives inside of us – we were not born to live a mediocre life. We are designed for success and to bring our purpose to the world and in that purpose we share it with others. Persistence will wake us up in the middle of the night with a heart beating drive to keep moving forward…speaking to us to get up again..one more time. It’s like a clothing of armor protecting us from the naysayers who would wish us to quit like the world does. Persistence is our fiercest key to open the doors of our destiny.
Let’s look at Edmund Hillary, a beekeeper from Auckland, New Zealand. He earned world recognition along with his guide, Tenzing Norgay for becoming the first two people to climb Mount Everest and safely return after trying two previous attempts. What was it that made him come back again after failing twice? I believe he had vision and persistence and a lot of grit. He was determined to make it and he did. This is the exact ingredient we have to have in our lives in order to climb the mountains before us.
Napoleon Hill wrote in his book, Think and Grow Rich, “There may be no heroic connotation to the word persistence, but that quality is to the character of the human being what carbon is to steel.” He is exact when he writes that persistence is a unique mental strength that is needed to combat repeated rejections and numerous other obstacles that pop up and lay in wait to stop us. Persistence is the absolute essential key to climbing over the obstacles and reaching the life and results you want.
If persistence is not given to us, how do we acquire it? First we must develop it-it can’t be bought nor is it inherited..no one can give it to you but YOU. Bob Proctor states in “Thinking into Results, “Ultimately, Persistence becomes a way of life. But that’s not where it begins. To develop the habit of persistence, you must first want something. You have to want something so much that it becomes a heated desire, a passion in your belly. You must fall in love with the idea. Yes, LITERALLY fall in love with the idea. Magnetize yourself to every part of the idea. Then, persistence will be automatic. The very idea of not persisting will become hateful, and anyone who even attempted to take your dream away from you or stop you, or even slow you down, would be in serious trouble. Difficulties, obstacles, and challenges will definitely appear on a regular basis, but because of your persistence, you will achieve victory every time.”
Here are a few keys that persistent people have in common and practice daily:
- All consuming vision
- A burning desire
- Daily developed habits
- Committed to life long learning
- Role models and mentors
Now is the time to build the muscle of persistence. Are you ready and determined to go out and fight and get what you want – using all of your vim and vigor to make it happen?
