Have you ever witnessed a dog with a bone and someone comes along and tries to take the bone from the dog? The look on the angry dog’s face is priceless. This dog is determined to keep the bone and to keep the thief from stealing it with all of its might.
That’s exactly how we have to be in our business, blogs or whatever our passion is in life. We have to have a fierceness and determination in the belief that we are going to be a success and make a difference. Let’s take starting a business for example. At first there is the emotional and euphoric cloud high we are floating around on. The plan is in place, the website is purchased and built and the product is in hand. Now what? This is where fierce determination comes in. We have to grit our teeth and bear down on our dreams. We can’t let obstacles or people get in our way and steel our dream. No matter how small or large our dreams and visions are the process is the same. Bear down, dig in and don’t give up!
There will be times of great celebration but there will be times when our outer circle is whispering to us that it is a good idea to just quit and count the loses! There is something deep down that is telling you to keep moving forward. How bad do you want to succeed? When it comes to the dog with the bone, well.. he’s not giving in by any means. Challenges come by way of the nay-sayers, financial restrictions and sometimes health. But it still boils down to not giving up. Small wins are better than no wins. Don’t measure your progress by someone else’s- it’s all about you and your race.
Nick Vujicic is a dog with a bone when it came to accepting his disabilities and overcoming adversity. He was born with phocomelia, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of legs and arms. Today, he is a motivational speaker and he has fought to overcome his adversities and the naysayers. His mission statement reads, “Your attitude determines your ability to succeed. How you respond to challenges, approach change and deal with difficulties—even how you think about yourself—are all key factors in success, both in life and business.” (Attitude is Altitude) What if Nick had given up the bone in early childhood? Where do you think he would be today? Most of us struggle with far less than Nick, if he can keep his determination and succeed, so can we.
I was drawn and led to two men, Earl Nightingale and Napoleon Hill. Both men motivational but they were on to something and that something is the development of our mindset. Earl said something very simple, “We become what we think about.” “Picture yourself in your mind’s eye as having already achieved this goal. (whatever your goal is) See yourself doing the things you’ll be doing when you’ve reached your goal.” Everything begins in our mind. Napoleon Hill said, “What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” The book of Proverbs 23:7 states For as a man thinks in his heart so is he.

What are your thoughts?
Do you have a dream or goal for your life? What is the thing that really makes you smile and pushes the passion meter into overdrive? Remember: determination is fueled by desire. I’ll use myself as an example. I’ve had a strong desire to start my own business for a while now. My determination is rock solid and I’ve clamped down on the bone and I’m fierce about the journey. Is it hard, YES! Do I have all of the answers, NO! But I’m committed to my journey. I’ve set my mind that I will succeed and I will bring my dream and vision to me.
The Take Away
Let go of the limiting thoughts and begin to envision yourself being and having the life you want. There will be many times of uphill battles but it comes back to how bad do you really want it? Are you tough enough and is your determination rock solid? If so, it’s time to press go and begin the journey to live your dreams and passions.
